The Road to Adepticon 2012: Batch Painting Dwarves
Am now in batch painting mode for the Khazad Dum army for Adepticon 2012. This army has way more models that I'll need for the tourneys but it allows me to choose when building lists and maybe even use if for War of the Ring.
Boltgun metal done on all armour plates as well as inking in Badab Bald for the chainmail and axes.
Next step: gold gold gold! It is Khazad Dum's glory days after all.
A little bit of inspiration purchased recently from Fantasy Flight, the LCG:

The Road to Adepticon 2012: Test Model for LotR Dwarf Army
Here are a couple of pics of a very dirty test model (no highlights, no shading, just plain paint slapped on the model). The idea here was to test our base colors and where to put them on the model.
The theme decided with my team mate for this army is Khazad Dum during it's Glory Days...
The exact GW colors used:

The exact GW colors used:
- For the blue areas (scheme tried and tested on my Crimson Fists)
- Basecoat Necron Abyss Foundation Paint
- Coat of Regal Blue leaving the Necron Abyss base in the recessed spots
- Small highlight of Enchanted blue
- Smaller highlight of Ice blue
- Wash of Asurmen blue ink
- For the yellow areas:
- Iyanden Darksun Foundation base
- Slowly build to Golden Yellow then Sunburst yellow
- Final tiny highlight mix of Sunburst yellow and Skull white
- For the Golden areas:
- Basecoat Boltgun Metal
- Shining gold
- Wash of Ogryn Flesh or Devlan Mud
- Shining gold
- Burnished gold highlight
- Final small Mithril Silver highlight
- For the Metal areas:
- Boltgun metal
- Badab Black wash (maybe with a hint of Asurmen blue in it?)
- Boltgun Metal highlight
- Mithril Silver highlight
- For the Browns (leather and beards):
- Various brown colors are used: Scorched brown, Bestial Brown, Snakebite Leather...
- Inked with Devlan Mud, Badab Black then highlighted
Chris, any comments, changes, corrections are welcome!!!
Also for the normal warriors, I was thinking of doing a line of yellow as shown on the pics but do something more complex for the Khazad Guard/Iron guard type of models. Also, I was thinking of painting a rune on the shields (or three like the Celts). What do you think?
Painting in Progress: Empire Greatswords for a friend
I am currently also working on painting a unit of 40 Greatswords and a small unit filler for an Empire army for a friend. The idea is to make them stand out from the Empire troops that are painted with GW Scab red highlighted with a mix of Scab red and white (to be confirmed). So for the moment, I think I'll go for deep, blood red (on a base of GW Scab Red) and shiny GW Mithril Silver and Gold for armour plates and details.
Currently, all the models were basecoated white and some GW Boltgun metal is being applied on all the armour and swords areas

The Road to Adepticon 2012: Building a LotR Dwarf Army
This year, the plan for Adepticon 2012 is to play in the LotR Championships and the LotR Team tourney with a brand new army: Dwarves!
I ordered and received all the Dwarves models I'll ever need (until they come up with new ones for the Hobbit...) as well as scenic Bases from Secret Weapon: 'Ruined Temple bases'.
Below are pics for the first step: cleaning mold lines. Basecoating was also done in white
The new bases from Secret Weapon: beautiful, no bubbles, virtually no cleaning to do:
