The Road to Adepticon 2012: Test Model for LotR Dwarf Army

Here are a couple of pics of a very dirty test model (no highlights, no shading, just plain paint slapped on the model). The idea here was to test our base colors and where to put them on the model.

The theme decided with my team mate for this army is Khazad Dum during it's Glory Days...

The exact GW colors used:

  • For the blue areas (scheme tried and tested on my Crimson Fists)
    • Basecoat Necron Abyss Foundation Paint
    • Coat of Regal Blue leaving the Necron Abyss base in the recessed spots
    • Small highlight of Enchanted blue
    • Smaller highlight of Ice blue
    • Wash of Asurmen blue ink

  • For the yellow areas:
    • Iyanden Darksun Foundation base
    • Slowly build to Golden Yellow then Sunburst yellow
    • Final tiny highlight mix of Sunburst yellow and Skull white

  • For the Golden areas:
    • Basecoat Boltgun Metal
    • Shining gold
    • Wash of Ogryn Flesh or Devlan Mud
    • Shining gold
    • Burnished gold highlight
    • Final small Mithril Silver highlight

  • For the Metal areas:
    • Boltgun metal
    • Badab Black wash (maybe with a hint of Asurmen blue in it?)
    • Boltgun Metal highlight
    • Mithril Silver highlight

  • For the Browns (leather and beards):
    • Various brown colors are used: Scorched brown, Bestial Brown, Snakebite Leather...
    • Inked with Devlan Mud, Badab Black then highlighted

Chris, any comments, changes, corrections are welcome!!!

Also for the normal warriors, I was thinking of doing a line of yellow as shown on the pics but do something more complex for the Khazad Guard/Iron guard type of models. Also, I was thinking of painting a rune on the shields (or three like the Celts). What do you think?
